Is it hard to become a welder?
Is it hard to become a welder?
Well, that depends on what you consider “hard”. It definitely takes more training than becoming a dog groomer or taking on gigs as a house cleaner. But it’s much easier to become a welder than to become a doctor.
Future welders usually go through a training program and an apprenticeship before they try to get their license and/or certification. Some states require that welders have licenses, while others don’t.
Welding training can be completed in under a year. Around seven to eight months is usually what it takes. The duration of your apprenticeship will depend on how quickly you learn and on whether or not your state requires you to complete a minimum number of hours. But on the whole, you can go from zero to a working welder in under two years. And I’d say the entire process isn’t particularly hard, but your opinion may differ.
