What do I need to make candles?
Candles are easy to make and all you need to do is get the right ingredients. Here are the main things you’ll need: candle wax, essential oil, wicks, jar, and a lighter. You can buy all of these items online or at local craft stores. In the photos above, you can see examples of various types of candles I made and used. To start, you’ll need some type of container. A tall, wide glass jar works well.
I use Mason jars, which hold a lot of wax and cover the jar with more wax as it heats up. You can buy them from your local craft store or online. I do recommend getting a wide-mouth mason jar with a lid in case you put a lot of scented oils or waxes in your jar. If you want to use an oil or candle that requires more attention to detail, you can grow a plant in your jar. My family does this with basil,
which is an easy plant to care for in your jar. Once it grows, you can move it inside the jar for added protection during storage. A glass candle holder works as well. You can find these online or at craft stores. Fill your jar up with about four tablespoons of fresh or dried flower or plant oil. I usually start with flower or plant oil infused with lavender, but you can experiment with anything you have on hand.
Sometimes I use essential oils or sugars. I place the wax in the middle of the jar and spread the oil/wax evenly over the wax. You can use a candle holder to do this, but I find it far more efficient to use a clean plate or bowl. You can use parchment paper to apply the wax, but I find leaving it on the surface of the bowl works better. Smoke the candle as you would normally, placing it on a holder or eating it while it’s burning. visit more!!!
