Dogs and cats are two distinct species that regard one another as potential prey. But that doesn’t rule out the possibility of them getting along. Many families have demonstrated that dogs and cats can be great companions. Keep them apart as much as possible. If you have the space, make sure your cats have a place to escape – vertical space is ideal. Remove the cat’s belongings out the dog’s reach; sometime they refuse to eat if they were too close. Don’t be shocked if it takes them some time to adjust, and spend as much time as you can with the cats without the dog.

Start the exercise from your end. Whenever your pet tries to jump on you or anyone else do no give them any attention. Try to teach them to do something which is not at all compatible with jumping, for eg. sitting. If your pet is not sitting they don’t get the attention. Pet your dog only when all their four paws are on the ground.
Always remember that every member of the house has to follow this training exercise and then only will you obtain full results.

- Part of the fun of bringing home a new puppy or dog is finding the perfect name for them. Certain names are better for training. A strong ending, like in the names “Jasper,” “Jack” and “Ginger,” perks up puppy ears — especially when you place emphasis at the end.It helps to consider a short name ending with a strong consonant that they can always hear clearly.
- Decide on the House Rules. Are parts of the house off limits? Are they allowed on the bed or the furniture? If the rules are determined early, you can avoid confusion — for both of you.
- Like humans, dogs need their own space. As early as possible, give your pup their own private sleeping place, such as a crate. Be sure to reward your puppy or dog if they remain relaxed and quiet in their den.
- When your puppy gets home, give them a warm hot-water bottle and put a ticking clock near their sleeping area. This imitates the heat and heartbeat of litter mates and will soothe your puppy in their new environment.
- Reward your puppy or dog’s good behavior with positive reinforcement. Let them know when they’re getting it right. Use toys, love and lots of praise.
- The first command you teach your pet should be to come. Get down on their level and tell your pup to come using their name. When they do, get excited and use lots of positive reinforcement
- Puppies and dogs live in the moment — two minutes after they’ve done something, they’ve already forgotten about it. So when your pup is doing something bad, use your chosen training technique right away so they have a chance to make the association between the behavior and the correction.
- Your puppy or dog has worked hard to please you throughout their training. Leave them with lots of praise, a treat, some petting or five minutes of play. This almost guarantees they’ll show up at their next class or training session with their tail wagging, ready to work!

Follow the following steps to clean your dog’s ears:
1. Consult a vet and get an ear cleaning solution for your dog. do not use a cotton swab as you may end up hurting your dog’s ears.
2. Always be fully prepared before starting the process. Keep everything yo need within arms reach. Make sure to pamper your dog with a treat to associate the process with something positive.
3. First begin with cleaning the visible outer ear then gradually proceed towards cleaning the inner ear. A dog’s ear canal is L-shaped and cleaning it can be challenge so if you are a new pet parent do perform this task only under the supervision of a vet.- 3153 views
