No, Christmas actually makes me pretty sad as a divorced father living at poverty level in a pretty crummy place. Not sure if I’ll see my son on Christmas anyway. Maybe an hour or so. Maybe will go to a diner or something. He’ll probably spend most of the day with his mother and stepfather who abused him for so many years when he was younger. It’s hard to believe i used to have somewhat normal Christmases with him when he was a little kid when I was still married and lived in a house and we had a Christmas tree and stuff like that. Wow, it almost seems like it never even happened. Like a dream

Yes we have a lifelike plastic ‘stirling pine’ version we bought last year with a sparkly light dusting of ‘snow.’ Joke is though … we never ever have snow at Christmas … SE Australia.

Seem to buy a little something new each year, so paid a visit to the Santa Shop last week. Sometimes we rescue son’s old (battery powered) train set to tizzy and tinsel up to look Christmassy too. (No reason to buy an expensive set … a cheap plastic pre-schooler’s set will do just fine).

When I was young parents would usually buy a fresh hewn tree that would drop needles for weeks. The smell of pine trees always reminds me of those Christmases. Kind of sad really. 🎄

I recall reading a card years ago that said something like “Strange species these humans. They kill a living tree, take it inside their homes, decorate and sing songs to it.”

Not this year. Our new cat is too wild and the tree would become a cat tree and knocked over very quickly. Ornaments? Scoff. Those would last about five minutes.

This year it’s tall candle lanterns (closed off with glass) with pillar candles, some scented like Nordic Spruce, around the living room, as well as LED fairy lights and tea lights in glass jars and mercury glass votive candle holders. There will be garland with berries, pine cones, etc hung high where it can’t be reached, and mini handmade wreaths that go over each of our candle-shaped sconce lights in the living room. When its all lit up at night its angelic and good smelling.

We also have a big mixed evergreen wreath, fresh. All of the dangerous things are kept up high where she can’t jump. It’s actually sort of liberating and will be a lot easier to clean up as we usually have a 7-9′ fresh tree as we live near several tree farms.
